busy few days

This GREAT HORNED OWL is sitting on eggs. This is the second year in a row that this owl has used this nesting site.

I spent Monday morning at Estero hoping that the White-throated Thrush would appear.  Unfortunately my wait was in vain.  I never showed and hasn’t been seen since Saturday morning.  I must have moved on to another location.  Maybe it will appear again somewhere.  But I stayed in the park until mid-afternoon.  Monday evening, the COOTS (Curious Older Ornithological Trail-blazers) had arranged to use the Computer/Lecture Room to show a bird-related film.  We showed OPPOSABLE CHUM:  Guts and Glory at the World Series of Birding.  This was open to anyone in the park.  We ended up having 25 people and it was very well-received.

We organized a field trip for Wednesday morning to Sabal Palm Sanctuary down near Brownsville.  We had 21 people sign up for the trip.  So that was well-attended, also.  It was a great morning.

And then this evening, the Arroyo Colorado Audubon Society’s monthly meeting was held at the Harlingen public library.  The speaker this evening presented a talk on the status of the Ocelot in this area.  The Ocelot is an endangered animal.  There are estimated to only 80 of these animals in existence.  The are 13 in the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Area.  Very fascinating presentation.
