Actually it was more like 540 miles yesterday. San Benito, Texas to Tyler, Texas. And we still have a couple of hours ahead once we get started this morning before we get to Texarkana. Texas is such a big state.
My goal yesterday was to avoid Houston and Dallas. And I was successful. I drove up Highway 77 to Victoria (stopping for an hour in Refugio to look for the Greater Pewee and the Flame-coloured Tanager that have been there for the past 1 1/2 months — got the Pewee but dipped on the tanager) and then continued on 77 until I hopping on the OSR (Old San Antonio Road). This was quite a nice drive. Countryside driving with the occasional small town. Oil well country. Interesting. Scenic. Think we were close to Greater Prairie-Chicken territory.
We have our dog Abby with us. But sad to say, Abby is not doing very good. She has been losing her strength of late. I have to lift her in and out of the car. She is not eating well and there is no bounce in her step. Something definitely wrong. Praying that things will turnaround. I was up this morning at 4:30 to take her outside for her bathroom break. Breakfast here at the Holiday Inn at six o’clock.
I wonder what adventures await us today.
