The Bird Blind will provide a location for photographers to sit or stand and take pictures of birds without scaring the birds away. It is not a large structure and will have room for two photographers/observers.
The wood and post supports for the Bird Blind arrived on Wednesday last week. Arrangements were made with the a few of the park work-campers to meet with us Friday morning to hammer the 4 x 4 post supports into the ground. I had concerns about this effort as I have worked with supports of this kind before. The supports go down about 2 1/2 feet into the ground. It took muscle and a sledge hammer to drive them down. There are six supports.
For the most part the supports went down into the ground with no major issues. And within a couple of hours, that part of the work was complete. Friday afternoon, my neighbor and I started working on the floor of the Bird Blind. We were able to add some of the 2 x 6 joists. The rest of the floor will be completed on Monday (if rain does not keep us from the work).
