The second Thursday of each month, the Arroyo Colorado Audubon Society meets in the Harlingen Public Library. They generally have a speaker. Tonight the compiler of the Harlingen Christmas Bird Count provided a report on the results of this year’s count. The count was held on January 3rd. If I had only known in advance, I could have registered and participated as we arrived here on January 1st. The count was first conducted in 1998. In terms of the number of species seen, it was about average. 160 species. After, the summary, people that took pictures during the count took turns plugging their thumb-drives into a computer and showing their pics up on a screen for everyone to view.
It was a fun night.
