Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge

From following Texas bird sightings, I learned that a female BLUE BUNTING was seen at the Santa Ana NWR (please click on this) his past Sunday.  So this morning Diana Miller and I went to go look for it.  The refuge is about a 45 minute drive from here.  I took the “Military Highway” instead of the expressway.  It is the scenic way to go.  It was interesting to see the Border Patrol cars and the County Police cars parked (at fairly short intervals) along the road.  They are ever vigilant for illegals.

Santa Ana has hiking trails through-out.  There are several small lakes and great viewing blinds.  Well, the Blue Bunting was elusive.  There were several people there looking for it.  We all came up MT.  However, there were lots of interesting birds in there.  Here are some pictures I took today.
