I drove around the usual Snowy Owl areas north and northwest of Strathroy this morning. 5 Snowy Owls were counted. The first one encountered was atop the old silo near the billboard along Centre Street, north of Highway 402. The 2nd one encountered was spotted from the intersection of Centre Road and Egremont Drive. It was in a field northeast of the intersection. There were two owls along Egremont, west of School Road and the last one was seen along Seed Road.
After leaving this area, I drove down to Melbourne to have a look for possibly more owls (did not find any) and what raptors might be around. Driving down Hyndman and Switzer Roads, I counted 3 Northern Harriers, 1 second year Bald Eagle, an American Kestrel, 6 Red-tailed Hawks and 4 Rough-legged Hawks.
I also saw American Crows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Blue Jays, I did not see Horned Larks, Snow Buntings, Tree Sparrows or Longspurs.
