Snowy Owls

21 Dec

This is another invasion year.  And here in southwestern Ontario we are seeing our share.  This past Wednesday I went out for an afternoon drive around some of the back-roads just outside of town.  I saw two Snowy Owls.  And this was in an area that I had never seen Snowies before.  I am posting a link here to an article in the American Birding Association’s blog about the amazing Snowy Owl sightings this year.  There is even a video of Snowy Owl / Peregrine Falcon confrontation.  Lots of pics.  Enjoy.

The Strathroy Christmas Bird Count is close.  Dec. 23rd.  Monday.  We will certainly be keeping our eyes open for Snowy Owls, in addition to all the other winged creatures we can find.  The weather forecast isn’t the best.  Rain and freezing rain today, tonight and tomorrow.  No precipitation forecast for Monday.  But the temperature is supposed to drop off below freezing.  Should make for some interesting walking.  Boot weather.

Wish us luck!!!!!
