I mentioned in a previous post, last Tuesday was spent taking my grand-daughter to her orthodontist in London. These check-ups occur every 6 weeks at the children’s dental clinic at the dental school at the University of Western Ontario.
Then on Wednesday, we drove down to Kalamazoo, Michigan for a birthday celebration with my sister. Wednesday was her birthday. We arrived in the late afternoon. It seems like there is always some kind of festivity going on in Kalamazoo. For example, in the summer, every Wednesday evening there is a “Mixer on the Mall”. The downtown mall is the location for this mixer. Music, food, drinks. There were a lot of people. Always interesting to watch the people milling about. The music was a band called the Big Boss Blues Band. Pretty good music. After we left the mixer, we took my sister out for supper to a GREAT mexican restaurant.
Thursday morning we lounged around in my sister’s backyard, enjoying the sounds of the birds in the area. She has numerous feeders around her property. In the afternoon, we drove over to visit some friends that live just outside of town. Their house is situated over-looking a lake. It was a wonderful as we had not seen them in quite some time. Thursday evening was the opening night of “A Taste of Kalamazoo.” A downtown park is cordoned off and there are food booths set up all around the park. There is a band shell in the park and live music is going on continuously late into the night.
We thoroughly enjoyed the time we got to spend with my sister and then on Friday, we headed home.
Today, I drove over to the church and trimmed up the low hanging branches of a Butternut Tree that is near the parking area at the church. This will make parking in the shade a lot easier. Nothing planned for tomorrow. Pretty quiet weekend, all in all. Should be able to get some reading done.
Oh, by the way, a new yard bird today — Indigo Bunting. Sitting atop the Honeysuckle Bush. And WOW!!!! The robins just love my water feature in the back yard. Three, sometimes four, robins at a time in the water and usually more waiting their turn. Also had Baltimore Oriole and Chipping Sparrow in the water today. Last night there was a Catbird in the water.
