06:43 hrs. – Pileated Woodpeckers

16 Feb

A Strathroy nature lover posted in her blog that she saw 3 Pileated Woodpeckers in the Strathroy Conservation Area yesterday.  I have seen tell-tale signs of their presence but have never actually seen them there.

The Pileated Woodpecker is another bird on my bucket list. I have never seen one. 🙂

A couple of Rondeau Big Year birders will be looking for Pileated at Rondeau this weekend I suspect. I saw one last Sunday!

I am sure you can guess! (I’m not one of them).

A coworker in our office who can spy Pileateds pretty reliably in a specific tree in the Strathroy CA (not sure where). I only see them every once and awhile (usually around this time of year). If you want to come out with me sometime I can show you where I sometimes see them.

Over the years, I have heard from a number of people of Pileated Woodpecker sightings in the Strathroy CA. I just haven’t been at the right place at the right time. I know they are there. I will get in touch with you one of these days and we can check it out. Sorry you can’t make the Owl Prowl on Saturday. Another time, I hope.
